Martin and Muñoz Snow Globes

Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz push the well known and much beloved snow globe out of its kitchy comfort zone and into a psychological space to dramatic and often ominous effect. Their work presents tense cinematic landscapes and ephemeral residences worthy of Charles Foster Kane. Each "scene" reflects a sense of eminent danger, perilous fate and a palpable sensation of unrest.

Also known as Martin and Muñoz, the husband and wife duo began creating their work together after their courtship in Colorado during the blizzard of 1993. Although maintaining studios in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, their secluded home in the Delaware Water Gap in Pennsylvania no doubt provides inspiration to the chilly scenes encapsulated within the snowy orbs.

One could says both Walter and Paloma have a preoccupation with the white powdery stuff of fairy tales and mystery.

Look for their book this fall, published by Aperture, text by Jonathan Lethem.
